Gallagher Leads in California District 1 Special Vote
Republican James Gallagher holds a significant lead with 73 percent of the vote in the special election to fill the seat of the late Doug LaMalfa. The top candidates will advance to an August runoff to represent the district before its boundaries are redrawn in January.
Republican James Gallagher secured a 73% lead in the June 2 special election primary for California's Congressional District 1. The contest determines who fills the seat vacated by the late Doug LaMalfa, a fourth-generation rice farmer and longtime North State Congressman. The winner will hold the position only until January 1, when voter-approved redistricting eliminates the current district boundaries.
### Gallagher Dominates Six-Candidate Field Gallagher led a field of six candidates during the Tuesday primary, according to early results. Democrat Mike McGuire followed with 13.4%, while Audrey Denney secured 11.3% of the vote.
