Global financial markets experienced a significant rally on Monday following an announcement from the United States President Donald Trump regarding a delay in planned military action. The president stated that the administration has engaged in productive dialogue with Iran, leading to an order to postpone strikes previously aimed at Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure.

In response to the de-escalation signals, the U.S. dollar saw a sharp decline while stock and bond prices surged as investors moved back into riskier assets.

Market analysts have reacted with cautious optimism to the news. Kenneth Broux, head of corporate research FX and rates at Societe Generale in London, noted that the development aligns with recent reports from international observers.

This confirms what the head from the IAEA has been saying over the weekend, that discussions were taking place between both sides.

Broux further questioned whether the administration would now drop the impending deadline to re-open the Strait of Hormuz, advising investors to favor front-end bonds. From the United Kingdom, Chris Beauchamp, chief market analyst at IG Markets, emphasized that the situation remains fluid despite the immediate positive reaction.

This is obviously a postponement, not a complete cease-fire and we will see what happens from here.

Beauchamp added that while the markets are breathing a sigh of relief, the long-term impact remains to be seen as previous tensions have not been fully resolved. Elias Haddad, global head of markets strategy at Brown Brothers Harriman, characterized the move as a potential tactic intended to stabilize volatile markets.

It’s clearly jaw boning in the face of the meltdown that weve seen.

Haddad suggested that if this represents a legitimate de-escalation, the relief rally in risk assets could extend further. However, he noted that a sustained recovery depends on whether this is a genuine step toward peace or merely a temporary pause before further escalation.
