PICK N PAY STORES LTD raised 4.7 billion rand ($282.43 million) through a stake sale in its discount grocery unit Boxer Retail. The sale priced at a premium to unlock capital for the parent company's broader restructuring efforts in South Africa. At an exchange rate of $1 = 16.6415 rand, the capital raise aims to support a turnaround of the core supermarket business.
Pick n Pay sold the stake to strengthen its balance sheet after the core brand struggled with declining margins. The 4.7 billion rand inflow provides immediate liquidity to fund a pivot toward more profitable store formats.
