Thousands of jeepney drivers across the Philippines took to the streets on Thursday to protest a dramatic surge in diesel prices. The local price hike, which has more than doubled, follows a spike in global oil costs linked to the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Toni Prado, a driver and father of four, described the severe impact on his livelihood, noting that his daily take-home pay has plummeted from 1,000 pesos ($16.65) for three trips to just 200 pesos.
"We are losing our income. What we earn just goes to paying for diesel," said Prado.
