Panama Denies CK Hutchison Claims on Port Arbitration
President Mulino denied claims that Panama missed arbitration deadlines. Officials accused CK Hutchison of obstructing the coordinated port transition process.
President Jose Raul Mulino of Panama has strongly rejected claims made by a local unit of CK HUTCHISON HOLDINGS LTD regarding a dispute over canceled port contracts, labeling the accusations as outrageous. The conflict centers on an arbitration process involving the Panama Ports Company (PPC), which operates major terminals in the region. PPC, a subsidiary of the conglomerate headquartered in Hong Kong, recently accused the Panamanian government of missing a critical March 13 deadline to respond to legal proceedings. The company further alleged that government officials sought an extension because they lacked proper legal representation.
President Mulino dismissed these claims during a public event, asserting that the administration is well-prepared with international counsel.
