Evette and Wilson reach South Carolina GOP runoff
Trump-endorsed Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette will face Attorney General Alan Wilson in a June 23 runoff after neither candidate secured a majority. The result marks a defeat for Representative Nancy Mace and sets the stage for a final contest to succeed Governor Henry McMaster.
Pamela Evette and Alan Wilson advanced to a June 23 runoff for the South Carolina Republican gubernatorial nomination after no candidate secured the 50% threshold on Tuesday evening. Evette led the field as 63% of ballots were counted following an endorsement from Donald Trump. Evette's advancement tests Trump’s influence over the United States Republican base ahead of the November general election.
