Novo Nordisk cuts Ozempic and Wegovy prices in India
Novo Nordisk reduced the prices of its diabetes and weight-loss drugs by up to 48 percent on Tuesday. The move aims to compete with cheaper local generics.
The pharmaceutical manufacturer headquartered in Denmark, Novo Nordisk A/S, has announced a further reduction in the prices of its prominent diabetes and weight-loss treatments, Ozempic and Wegovy, within India. This strategic pricing adjustment aims to bolster the company's competitive position as the local market sees an influx of cheaper generic alternatives from domestic drugmakers. On Tuesday, the company confirmed that the price for Ozempic would be slashed by as much as 36%, while Wegovy will see a price drop of up to 48%. These significant discounts reflect the intensifying competition in the region's pharmaceutical landscape. The move comes at a time when local pharmaceutical firms are aggressively expanding their portfolios to include generic versions of GLP-1 receptor agonists. By lowering costs, the Danish drugmaker seeks to maintain its market share amidst a surge of low-cost competition.
