Nigerian crude supply to local refineries falls short
Nigerian producers delivered 28.5 million barrels to local refineries in early 2026. Pricing disputes left supply at less than half of the allocated volumes.
Nigeria producers supplied local refineries with 28.5 million barrels of crude in the first quarter of 2026, less than half of allocated volumes. The delivery represents just 46% of the 61.9 million barrels mandated under domestic supply rules. This shortfall threatens Nigeria's effort to end fuel imports and maximize the value of its sovereign oil production.
### Pricing Disputes Stall Domestic Deliveries The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission reported that while producers offered 68.7 million barrels during the quarter, actual intake remained low. Data showed a 40.2-million-barrel gap between what was offered and what refineries actually received. The regulator attributed this discrepancy to ongoing pricing disagreements between upstream producers and local refiners.
