The government of New Zealand is currently evaluating the future of its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal, with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon stating that the project will only move forward if the business case is commercially viable. The facility, planned for Taranaki on the North Island, was initially expected to be ready for operation by 2027 or early 2028.
