MSCI quarterly profit rises on index segment strength
The data provider reported an adjusted profit of $4.55 per share as asset-based fees from its index segment rose 26.6%. Total operating revenue grew 14.1%.
MSCI INC reported a rise in its first-quarter profit on Tuesday, bolstered by strong performance across its index products and analytics services. Following the announcement, shares of the company climbed 3.8% in pre-market trading, though they remain down 1.2% for the year 2026. The company provides stock market indices that serve as essential benchmarks for trillions of dollars in assets managed by pension plans, investment funds, and asset managers. These indices are used globally to measure performance and guide strategic investment decisions. Persistent market volatility, fueled by macroeconomic concerns and tensions in the Middle East, led investors to increasingly utilize index products and risk analytics for portfolio rebalancing. This demand significantly impacted the company's financial results for the quarter ending March 31. Asset-based fees from the index segment grew by 26.6% year-over-year to $224.5 million. Overall operating revenue saw a 14.1% increase, reaching $850.8 million. On an adjusted basis, the data provider reported a profit of $4.55 per share, up from $4.00 per share in the corresponding period a year earlier.
