Gianluigi Aponte Transfers MSC Ownership to Children
MSC founder Gianluigi Aponte transferred ownership to his children in late 2025. He remains executive chairman as the group focuses on global maritime freight.
The world's largest shipping group, MSC, has announced that its ownership has been transferred from founder Gianluigi Aponte to his two children. The transition to Diego Aponte and Alexa Aponte, who serve as group president and chief financial officer respectively, took place in the last quarter of 2025. This move is intended to ensure continuity and long-term stability for the privately-held company, which is based in Switzerland.
Gianluigi Aponte, who was born in Italy and founded MSC in 1970, will retain his position as executive chairman. Under his leadership, the company evolved into a global shipping and logistics powerhouse. Despite the change in ownership, the group will continue to focus on its core business of maritime freight transport.
