The parliament of Moldova has officially approved a 60-day energy state of emergency following the disruption of a vital power line. The decision was reached after attacks by Russia in neighboring Ukraine rendered a primary electricity conduit inoperable.
The measure, introduced by the nation's pro-European government, passed with 72 votes in favor within the 101-member chamber. Despite the urgency of the situation, the opposition Socialist and Communist parties refused to support the emergency declaration.
