Mexico Finance Minister Optimistic on Economic Growth
Finance Minister Edgar Amador Zamora expects Mexico's economy to outperform the OECD's growth forecast of 0.8 percent for 2026. He cites a 700 billion peso infrastructure investment package and inflation control measures as key drivers that will support domestic activity despite global trade uncertainty.
Finance Minister Edgar Amador Zamora stated that Mexico could exceed OECD growth forecasts through a 700 billion peso ($40.50 billion) public investment surge. The projection follows the OECD’s outlook of 0.8% expansion in 2026 and 1.8% in 2027. Amador argued that planned infrastructure spending and government measures to contain inflation will support activity starting this quarter.
### Public Investment and Global Constraints Amador told Milenio in an interview published late on Wednesday that the government’s investment package targets roads, ports, and electricity generation. He noted that weaker forecasts are not unique to Mexico and reflect a broader global hit from higher energy costs tied to geopolitical conflict. The minister dismissed conservative estimates, noting that international bodies have previously underestimated the nation’s resilience.
