Malaysia Seeks New Fuel Sources Amid Global Oil Crunch
Economy Minister Akmal Nasir announced that Malaysia is pursuing crude oil from Africa, Russia, and Turkey to offset supply disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The government aims to secure compatible feedstock for domestic refineries while avoiding long-term deals.
Malaysia is seeking new oil sources from African countries, Russia and Turkey to address a global fuel crunch. The effort follows the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has reduced feedstock for refineries that depend on Middle Eastern crude. Economy Minister Akmal Nasir stated that any new supplies must be compatible with the technical requirements of domestic refining facilities.
Nasir told reporters on Wednesday that the government is exploring various international sources to stabilize supply. Malaysian refineries have been forced to reduce output because the Strait of Hormuz closure blocked key waterways for global oil and gas shipments.
