Kenya Central Bank Lowers Benchmark Interest Rate for Tenth Consecutive Time
Kenya lowered its benchmark rate to 8.75 percent on Tuesday to boost private lending. This tenth straight cut follows steady growth and stable inflation.
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Kenya announced today that it has reduced the benchmark lending rate to 8.75% from 9.00%, marking the 10th consecutive policy rate cut in a sustained easing cycle. This decision is intended to encourage private-sector lending and provide further support to earlier measures aimed at stimulating credit growth across Kenya

The move comes as inflation has slowed to 4.4%, which remains within the central bank's target range of 2.5% to 7.5%. With the national economy expanding at a rate of approximately 5%, the committee's review of the policy environment included data from the national weather service to assess broader economic conditions.
