Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel warned on Friday that a sharp increase in energy costs could drive broader inflation across Europe, necessitating a firm response from the European Central Bank if such pressures become entrenched. While the central bank maintained its current interest rates during its latest meeting, it raised its inflation projections and highlighted risks associated with the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. These factors have led markets to price in at least two rate hikes for the year.
