Jeff Bezos Aims for $100 Billion AI Manufacturing Fund
Jeff Bezos is seeking $100 billion for a new fund to automate manufacturing firms with AI. The project targets sectors like chipmaking, defense, and aerospace.
Jeff Bezos is reportedly in preliminary discussions to raise $100 billion for a new investment fund aimed at acquiring manufacturing companies and implementing artificial intelligence to accelerate automation. The project, which is currently in its early stages, focuses on transforming traditional industrial operations through advanced technology. The Amazon.com, Inc. founder is engaging with major asset managers to secure the necessary capital for the venture. Reports indicate that Bezos traveled to the Middle East several months ago to discuss the fund with representatives from various sovereign wealth funds in the region. The fund is characterized in investor documents as a manufacturing transformation vehicle. It is expected to target companies within the aerospace, defense, and chipmaking sectors. This initiative aligns with a growing trend of applying machine learning and robotics to heavy industry to increase production speed and efficiency. This development follows earlier reports regarding Project Prometheus, a startup focused on AI for engineering and manufacturing computers, automobiles, and spacecraft. Bezos is expected to serve as co-CEO of that project, which is reportedly seeking up to $6 billion in funding. Some financial reports from earlier this year suggest the startup may have already raised $6.2 billion. Project Prometheus recently appointed David Limp, the CEO of Blue Origin, to its board of directors. While Bezos and the project's co-founders, Sherjil Ozair and William Guss, have not officially commented on the reports, the scale of the proposed $100 billion fund underscores the significant capital being directed toward AI-driven industrial transformation.
