Core consumer prices in Japan rose by 1.6% in February from a year earlier, according to official government data released on Tuesday. This core consumer price index, which accounts for oil products but excludes fresh food prices, was slightly below the 1.7% annual gain anticipated by economists in a median estimate. A more narrow measure of inflation, which strips away the volatile effects of both fresh food and energy, showed that consumer prices climbed 2.5% in February compared to the same month last year. This data highlights the ongoing shifts in the Japanese economic landscape as global markets assess the performance of various sectors, including those represented by companies like Oil-Dri Corporation of America.
