Italy recorded a budget deficit of 3.1% of its gross domestic product (GDP) for 2025, according to data released by the statistics bureau ISTAT. While this figure represents a decrease from the 3.4% recorded in 2024, it remains above the European Union's 3% ceiling, dashing the government's hopes for an early exit from the bloc's disciplinary procedure for excessive deficits.
