Financial markets in India recorded their most severe monthly contraction since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. The Nifty 50 index fell 2.14% on Monday to close at 22,331.4, while the BSE Sensex declined 2.22% to 71,947.55. These benchmarks lost more than 11% of their value over the course of March, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions and concerns over global economic growth.
