Indian Shares Fall as Middle East Conflict Persists
The Nifty 50 and Sensex fell about 0.4% on Tuesday as high oil prices and record foreign outflows pressured the market. While IT stocks gained on software demand optimism, heavyweights like HDFC Bank declined amid broader concerns over regional stability and inflation.
India's Nifty 50 fell 0.44% to 23,281.10 on Tuesday morning as geopolitical tensions and record foreign outflows extended a four-session losing streak. The BSE Sensex dropped 0.4% to 73,969.01 while Brent Crude Oil held near $94 per barrel. The indexes have fallen 2.7% and 2.9% respectively over four sessions, sustained energy price pressure threatens inflation targets and growth in Asia's third-largest economy.
Foreign investors sold $411.8 million in shares on Monday, bringing 2026 outflows to $26.4 billion. The outflow figure exceeds the record outflows seen throughout 2025. Markets remain pressured by stalled peace talks between the United States and Iran.
