India Services PMI Rises to 58.8 on Strong Local Demand
The HSBC India Services PMI rose to 58.8 in April as robust domestic demand offset a slowdown in international orders. While operating expenses eased from recent highs, firms increased hiring at the fastest pace in ten months to manage rising new business volumes.
India services activity accelerated in April as strong domestic demand pushed the sector's growth to a five-month high. The reading rebounded from a 14-month low in March, maintaining a growth streak that began in mid-2021. Robust internal consumption remains the primary engine for the Indian economy, offsetting a visible slowdown in international orders.
### Domestic Demand Drives Services Rebound The HSBC India Services PMI, compiled by S&P Global and released by HSBC HOLDINGS PLC, rose to 58.8 in April from 57.5 in March. This final figure surpassed the preliminary estimate of 57.9 and stayed well above the 50.0 mark that separates expansion from contraction. New business growth reached its strongest pace in five months, led by consumer services, transport, and communication.
