India will remove domestic airfare caps from March 23
India's civil aviation ministry will revoke temporary domestic airfare caps this Monday. The measures were introduced in December to prevent price spikes.
The government of India has announced the removal of temporary price ceilings on domestic airfare, effective from March 23. According to the country's civil aviation ministry on Saturday, the decision ends a period of regulatory oversight intended to manage fare volatility. These caps were originally introduced in December following significant market disruption. A spate of mass cancellations by Indigo Acquisition Corp. had led to a sharp increase in airfares at other carriers, necessitating government intervention. With the revocation of these measures, airlines will once again have the flexibility to set fares based on market demand.
