India to Unveil 30 Billion Rupee Mineral Processing Plan

The Indian government is preparing to launch a 30 billion rupee incentive scheme to boost domestic processing of lithium and nickel. This policy aims to secure the electric vehicle supply chain as New Delhi targets significant increases in EV penetration by 2030.

India is preparing a 30 billion rupee ($313.48 million) incentive package to accelerate domestic lithium and nickel processing. This outlay targets midstream refining capacity to reduce reliance on imported battery materials as the nation scales its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. Establishing local processing is vital for India to reach its 2030 target of 30% electric car and 80% two-wheeler penetration.

### Scaling Domestic Battery Metal Refining The proposed policy aims to build industrial-scale refining capacity within the country. To qualify for federal incentives, lithium processing plants must maintain a minimum capacity of 30,000 metric tons. Nickel facilities are required to meet a higher threshold of at least 50,000 tons, people familiar with the matter said.
