India Reviews Duties on Malaysian Aluminium Wires
The Indian government launched an investigation today into aluminium wire imports from Malaysia. Major domestic firms requested the review to extend duties.
India has formally initiated an investigation into certain aluminium wire products imported from Malaysia, according to a government statement released late Monday. The probe is focused on evaluating the potential extension of existing countervailing duties that are currently scheduled to expire in September.
The regulatory action follows a joint application submitted by a consortium of major domestic producers. This group includes HINDALCO INDUSTRIES LTD, VEDANTA LTD, and the Bharat Aluminium Company. These industry leaders have requested a formal review to determine whether the removal of these duties would lead to the continuation or recurrence of subsidization and subsequent injury to the local market.
