INis currently conducting government- and central bank-level talks with Singapore-based
SGAnt International to permit linking the Alipay+ platform with India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for cross-border transactions. This potential integration would allow users from Indiato pay with UPI at merchants integrated into the Alipay+ network, significantly impacting cross-border payment flows and improving convenience for international travelers.
The discussions involve officials from the government of India, the Reserve Bank of India, and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). While Ant International was originally founded by the Ant Group of China
CN, it now operates as an independent entity. According to its website, the Alipay+ network connects about 1.8 billion user accounts with over 150 million merchants across more than 100 markets. This scale is notable as the UPI system in Indiaprocesses close to 18 billion transactions a month.
