India Cuts Special Excise Duties on Petrol and Diesel

The government of India has announced a reduction in the special additional excise duties levied on petrol and diesel, according to an official government order released on Thursday. The move comes as part of a periodic review of fuel taxes in the country.

Under the new mandate, the duty on petrol has been lowered to 3 rupees per litre, which is equivalent to approximately $0.0318. Furthermore, the special additional excise duty on diesel has been eliminated entirely, bringing the rate down to zero. These adjustments are effective immediately following the issuance of the directive.
