India 2026 wheat crop estimates cut following heavy rains
India's wheat harvest is seen rising to 114 million tons in 2026. This is below earlier estimates as unseasonal rains and hail impacted crop quality and yields.
India is expected to see a rise in its Wheat production for 2026, though the final harvest is likely to fall short of earlier optimistic forecasts due to recent unseasonal weather. As the world's second-largest producer of the staple grain after China, the health of the Indian crop is a critical factor for regional food security and market stability.
The national government has projected a record-breaking output of 120.21 million metric tons, but industry representatives are providing more conservative figures. The Roller Flour Millers Federation of India has revised its production estimate downward following reports of hailstorms and heavy rains hitting maturing fields in key growing regions.
