IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated on Thursday that the global lender anticipates near-term demand for financial support to climb by $20 billion to $50 billion. This surge is attributed to the economic spillovers from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has severely tested global stability. The conflict has triggered a significant supply shock, resulting in a 13% reduction in the daily flow of Brent Crude Oil and a 20% cut in Natural Gas globally. These disruptions have caused energy prices to soar and have heavily impacted international supply chains.
