Halliburton beats profit estimates despite Iran conflict
Halliburton exceeded first-quarter profit expectations today. However, the firm warned that the Iran conflict could impact earnings as logistics costs rise.
HALLIBURTON CO, a leading oilfield services provider based in the United States, reported first-quarter profits that exceeded market expectations on Tuesday. However, the company cautioned that ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran and the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz are likely to inflate operational costs and weigh on near-term earnings.
The disruption at the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy chokepoint, has forced the rerouting of shipments, leading to higher logistics expenses and increased prices for raw materials. Halliburton estimated that these factors could reduce its current-quarter earnings per share by approximately 7 to 9 cents. Despite these challenges, the company remains strategically positioned to capitalize on future infrastructure repairs in the region, a market that Rystad Energy projects could be worth as much as $58 billion.
