Gold Prices Fall to One-Month Low on Interest Rate Concerns
Spot gold fell over 3% today as rising oil prices and a stronger dollar fueled expectations for high interest rates. The metal hit a one-month low this morning.
Gold prices experienced a significant downturn on Wednesday, falling more than 3% to reach their lowest level in over a month. The decline was primarily driven by a strengthening dollar and a surge in energy costs, which have intensified concerns regarding persistent inflation and the likelihood of the United States central bank maintaining a restrictive monetary policy for an extended period.
By mid-morning, spot gold had dropped 3.2% to $4,844.20 per ounce, marking its weakest point since early February. Similarly, gold futures for April delivery saw a parallel decline to $4,845.50. In the currency markets, the USD/CAD pair reflected the broader strength of the dollar, which typically makes bullion more expensive for international investors and pressures commodity prices.
