Spot gold market prices fell approximately 2.2%, while U.S. gold futures declined about 2.9% following the announcement that the United States USUS and Iran IRIR reached an understanding on the main guiding principles aimed at resolving their longstanding nuclear dispute.
The breakthrough in the U.S.-Iran talks (nuclear dispute negotiations) was a primary trigger of the move, with officials such as Abbas Araqchi noting the progress in the discussions. This announced understanding led to a shift in market risk perceptions, prompting investors to pull back from bullion. Simultaneously, the U.S. dollar index trended higher, adding further selling pressure as a firmer dollar makes precious metals more expensive for international buyers.
