Gold prices declined on Thursday as investors monitored diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East. Spot gold fell 1% to $4,476.51 per ounce, while futures in the United States for April delivery dropped 2.1% to $4,457. The market shift comes as participants evaluate conflicting reports regarding a potential ceasefire between regional powers.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran appeared ready to negotiate an end to the four-week conflict. This sentiment was countered by Iranian officials who, while reviewing a U.S. proposal, expressed no immediate intention to hold formal talks. The geopolitical landscape remains tense following the outbreak of the war involving Israel, which has led to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on facilities hosting American personnel.

Kyle Rodda, a senior financial market analyst at Capital.com, suggested that the market remains highly reactive to immediate news cycles.

In the next 24 to 48 hours, gold prices will just be about reacting to headlines about negotiations.

Energy markets also saw significant movement, with Brent Crude Oil rising back above $100 per barrel due to concerns over supply stability. Although higher oil prices typically drive inflation and enhance the appeal of bullion as a protective asset, the prospect of sustained high interest rates has dampened demand. According to the CME Group FedWatch Tool, markets are currently pricing in almost no chance of a Federal Reserve rate cut this year, a sharp reversal from previous expectations of multiple reductions.

In the broader precious metals market, Silver fell 1.9% to $69.90 per ounce. Platinum saw a decrease of 1.4%, trading at $1,893.60, while Palladium dropped 2% to $1,394.83.
