Airlines Raise Fares and Fees as Jet Fuel Prices Surge
Airlines are raising fares and baggage fees to offset surging jet fuel costs. Many carriers have also cut capacity and revised forecasts due to market volatility.
The global aviation industry is grappling with a dramatic surge in operational costs as jet fuel prices have climbed from approximately $85 per barrel to as high as $200 per barrel. This volatility, fueled by the geopolitical conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, has forced carriers to implement surcharges, hike baggage fees, and reduce flight frequencies. The volatility in global energy markets, particularly in Brent Crude Oil and West Texas Oil, has underpinned these industry-wide shifts.
In Europe, AEGEAN AIRLINES of Greece has warned that suspended flights in the Middle East and rising fuel expenses will significantly impact its first-quarter financial performance.
