The global aviation industry is facing significant disruption as jet fuel prices soar following the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Fuel costs, which typically account for a quarter of airline operating expenses, have surged from approximately $85 per barrel to as high as $200 per barrel. This financial pressure has forced carriers to implement surcharges, raise ticket prices, and adjust their long-term financial outlooks.

In Europe, the impact is widespread. AEGEAN AIRLINES in Greece expects its first-quarter results to be weighed down by rising fuel costs and the suspension of flights to the Middle East. AIR FRANCE-KLM has announced fare increases for long-haul travel from France, while easyJet plc in the United Kingdom warned that ticket prices would likely climb by the end of summer as fuel hedges expire. easyJet plc CEO Kenton Jarvis noted that consumers should prepare for these shifts as existing protections end. Meanwhile, British Airways owner IAG stated it has hedged enough fuel to avoid immediate price hikes.
