Germany saw seasonally adjusted unemployment fall by 12,000 in May, bringing the total unadjusted jobless count to 2.95 million. The decline beat a Reuters poll of economists who predicted a 10,000 increase for the month. While the headline figure improved, the labor office warned the drop reflects one-off effects rather than structural growth.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell 0.1 percentage points to 6.3%. Unadjusted figures showed 58,000 fewer people out of work compared to April. This marks the first time in four months that the total stayed below the 3 million threshold.
