German Investor Morale Drops to Minus 17.2 in April
The ZEW institute reported that investor sentiment fell to minus 17.2 points this April. Businesses are concerned about potential long-term energy shortages.
Investor sentiment in Germany experienced a sharper-than-anticipated decline in April as the broader economic ramifications of the conflict in Iran began to weigh heavily on business expectations. According to the latest data from the ZEW economic research institute, the sentiment indicator plummeted to minus 17.2 points this month. This figure represents a significant drop from the minus 0.5 points recorded in March and fell well short of the minus 5.0 points projected by analysts in a Reuters poll.
The assessment of current economic conditions also weakened significantly, sliding to minus 73.7 points. This result was more pessimistic than the minus 70.0 points anticipated by market experts. ZEW president Achim Wambach noted that the fallout from regional tensions is creating deep-seated anxiety within the corporate sector.
