German industry leaders demand clarity on trade deal after US court strikes down tariffs

German industry leaders seek clarity on trade following a US court ruling against global tariffs. The BDI warns that companies need immediate planning security.

The U.S. USUS Supreme Court ruled 6-3 today, February 20, 2026, that President Donald Trump exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) by imposing global tariffs. In its decision to strike down those tariffs, the court has fundamentally altered the trade landscape. This ruling has prompted an immediate response from Germany DEDE, where the BDI (Federation of German Industries) has called on the European Union to urgently seek clarity from the U.S. administration on the consequences for a transatlantic trade deal.
