German Economic Institutes Lower Growth Forecasts to 0.6%
German institutes lowered their 2026 growth forecast to 0.6% due to the Iran conflict. Inflation expectations for the coming years were sharply raised to 2.8%.
Leading economic institutes in Germany have significantly lowered their economic growth forecasts for the next two years while sharply increasing their inflation outlook. According to sources familiar with the matter, the revised projections are a direct response to the escalating conflict involving Iran, which has destabilized energy markets and clouded the recovery prospects for Europe's largest economy.
The institutes have reduced their 2026 growth forecast to 0.6%, down from the 1.3% projected last September. Similarly, the outlook for 2027 has been adjusted to 0.9% from a previous estimate of 1.4%. These figures align with reports from the business daily Handelsblatt and reflect the deepening economic fallout from geopolitical instability in the Middle East.
