German Chemical Workers Delay Wage Hikes Until 2027
The IGBCE union will delay wage hikes until January 2027 due to economic pressures. Firms will pay 300 euros per worker into a job security fund this year.
The chemical industry in Germany has reached a significant labor agreement to delay wage increases in response to a deteriorating economic outlook. Under the terms of the collective bargaining deal, the IGBCE union and industry employers have agreed to postpone pay hikes until January 2027.
Following the delay, wages are set to increase by 2.1% in early 2027, with a subsequent 2.4% rise scheduled for the following year. The union noted that the difficult economic climate over recent years has taken a toll on both companies and their workers, with surging energy prices compounded by geopolitical instability.
