German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has requested clarification from the United States regarding its decision to ease oil-related sanctions on Russia. During a visit to Norway on Friday, Merz noted that Germany was only informed of the policy change on Friday morning, following the issuance of a U.S. waiver for Russian oil products currently at sea.
"I would like to know about the motivations for Washington's decision," Merz stated in Andøya.
