German carnival season set to generate nearly 2 billion euros in revenue

Germany's carnival season is set to generate nearly 2 billion euros this year. Revenue is slightly down from 2025 because of a shorter festival period.

The German Economic Institute (IW) announced a study on February 9, 2026, projecting that the carnival season in Germany DEDE will generate nearly 2 billion euros in revenue this year. This estimate is about 100 million euros below 2025 because the season is 15 days shorter this year due to an earlier Easter. The timing and scale of the season materially affect consumer spending across multiple sectors at a national level, with celebrations reaching their peak this week.
