GM Shifts Chevrolet Assembly from China to Mexico
General Motors announced it will begin assembling the Chevrolet Groove and Aveo at its Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico starting in 2027. The project aims to produce 80,000 vehicles annually by 2030 to serve the local market while continuing to source parts from China.
GENERAL MOTORS CO will begin assembling Chevrolet Groove and Aveo models in Mexico to serve the local market starting in 2027. The move shifts final assembly for these high-volume models away from China, though parts production will remain there. GM announced the project at an event with Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday afternoon.
### Localizing Production for Mexico's Top Sellers GM plans to produce 80,000 vehicles annually at its Ramos Arizpe facility by 2030. The Aveo is currently the top-selling car for GM in Mexico, with over 60,000 units sold in 2025.
