Fitch cuts New Zealand's rating outlook to negative
Fitch cut New Zealand's outlook to negative due to rising debt and delayed fiscal consolidation. The agency cited global uncertainty and energy risks.
Fitch Ratings has revised the credit outlook for New Zealand from stable to negative, citing increased difficulty in reducing national debt due to a multi-year delay in fiscal consolidation. While the credit agency maintained the country's actual rating at AA+, the shift reflects a more cautious view of the sovereign's financial trajectory.
The economic recovery in the region has faced hurdles over the past several quarters, hampered by tepid consumer spending and heightened uncertainty regarding the global economic outlook and trade policies from the United States. Although the economy has shown preliminary signs of stabilizing, analysts suggest that significant spare capacity persists.
