Fed Officials Goolsbee and Hammack Warn of Inflation Risks
Fed Presidents Goolsbee and Hammack warned today that inflation is a major concern. They cited high energy prices and the Iran war as risks to price stability.
Two prominent United States Federal Reserve officials have signaled heightened concern over persistent inflationary pressures, prioritizing price stability over employment goals as geopolitical tensions escalate. Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack and Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee indicated that monetary policy may need to remain restrictive, particularly as the conflict involving Iran drives up energy costs.
During a joint interview on the podcast The Indicator from Planet Money, the policymakers used a color-coded scale to describe the economic landscape. Goolsbee characterized the inflation outlook as at least orange, noting that rising prices for WT GASOLINE and lingering tariff effects have shifted the trajectory toward a more critical state.
