Exxaro projects 12 percent rise in coal exports for 2026
South African miner Exxaro Resources expects coal exports to reach 8 million tons this year. Higher prices and improved rail performance drive the growth.
Exxaro Resources, a major mining company based in South Africa, has announced that its coal exports could rise by as much as 12% this year. This forecast comes as the company benefits from improved domestic rail performance and a surge in global energy prices driven by geopolitical conflict.
The ongoing war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which began in late February, has significantly disrupted global energy supplies. Exxaro expects its export volumes to reach 8 million metric tons in 2026, up from 7.1 million tons last year, though it cautioned that the conflict remains a threat to global energy security.
