EU Launches South Africa Roadshow for Critical Minerals
The European Union hosted its first investment roadshow in Johannesburg on Monday to mobilize capital under a 2025 trade partnership. The event targeted critical mineral supply chains as South Africa seeks to prioritize domestic processing and industrial development over raw exports.
The European Union hosted 200 companies in South Africa on Monday morning to mobilize €12 billion in pledged investments. This roadshow at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange is the first major activation of the 2025 EU-South Africa Clean Trade and Investment Partnership. The initiative targets critical mineral supply chains as Western powers seek to reduce industrial reliance on China.
### Moving Beyond Raw Mineral Exports South Africa is conditioning mineral access on local beneficiation to drive industrial development. Trade Minister Parks Tau stated during the opening session that the national objective is processing and value-chain integration rather than exporting raw materials. This shift aligns with South African efforts to leverage minerals essential for artificial intelligence, modern weaponry, and the energy transition.
