European Parliament Postpones Key Vote on Resuming Trade Negotiations with the United States
The European Parliament has postponed its decision on resuming a suspended trade agreement with the United States. This delay shifts the timeline to February 4.
The European Parliament
EUannounced on Monday that it has delayed its decision regarding whether to resume legislative work on a trade agreement with the US
US. The vote, which was originally scheduled to be held by the trade committee, has now been postponed until next Wednesday, February 4. This move comes as officials navigate complex diplomatic waters following previous friction with the administration of donald trump.
The trade deal was initially suspended as a direct protest against the demands made by donald trump concerning the acquisition of Greenland and his repeated threats to impose tariffs. Prior to the suspension, the
EU assembly had been actively working on removing import duties on USgoods. This included maintaining zero duties for American lobsters, a measure that was originally agreed upon with donald trump in 2020.
