The euro zone services sector contracted to 47.6 in April, marking its first decline in nearly a year as regional demand faltered. This 62-month low follows a March reading of 50.2 and narrowly beat preliminary estimates of 47.4. The data signals a sharp reversal for the bloc's dominant industry, suggesting that geopolitical instability is now actively eroding the post-pandemic recovery.

### Middle East Conflict Derails Growth The S&P Global Eurozone Services Purchasing Managers Index slumped as the conflict in the Middle East pressured consumer-facing sectors. New business fell to 46.5 from 48.6, the sharpest pace of decline since October 2023. Chris Williamson, chief business economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence, said the ongoing war has derailed the recovery momentum that had been building prior to the outbreak.
