Investor sentiment across the Euro zone deteriorated significantly in March as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East disrupted global trade. According to the latest Sentix survey, the investor morale index dropped to -3.1 points from a reading of 4.2 in February. While the figure surpassed the -5.0 mark predicted by analysts, it ended a three-month streak of improvements for the region. The research group attributed the decline to the escalating conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, which has targeted critical energy infrastructure and international shipping lanes. Sentix noted that the resulting energy price shocks and heightened geopolitical risks have severely undermined previous optimism regarding the European economic recovery. > This casts considerable doubt on the recent upturn in the EU. The survey, which included responses from 1,055 investors between March 5 and March 7, revealed a broad decline in both current conditions and future outlooks. Economic expectations plummeted to 3.5 from 15.8 in the prior month. Simultaneously, the index measuring the current economic situation slid to -9.5, down from -6.8 in February. The downturn was particularly pronounced in Germany, the largest economy in Europe. The German sentiment index fell to -12.1 in March from -6.9 in February. Analysts at Sentix suggested that this sharp decline signals a renewed economic contraction, effectively extinguishing the brief period of hope observed in recent months.
